Accountancy & Finance Graduate Jobs & Internships

Watson Wyatt offers two programs for prospective interns interesting in learning from one of the fastest growing companies according to both Fortune and Forbes. Watson Wyatt’s programs are designed to reach students in every stage of their education as well as recent graduates, to give you the chance to learn from a business leader and to attract the best to come to work for the company.

For students in the first or second year of a four-year education, the Insight Programme is the internship to apply for.  It also offers opportunities for people interested in changing careers who only have a couple of days free to look into another company’s offerings.

There are two different areas within the Insight Programme: actuarial consulting and non-actuarial consulting. Those interested in actuarial consulting should have excellent mathematical skills and a real passion and gift for problem-solving. Actuaries look at future events and use statistics and math to do things like:

·         Predict future pension values

·         Predict the total insurance liabilities

·         Find the best asset allocation plans

The two-day actuarial consulting portion of the Insight Programme can familiarize you with how these things fit into the operation of Watson Wyatt in a very practical way.

For the non-actuarial consulting programme, mathematics and statistics aren’t the focus, but instead you’ll be challenge to put your knowledge at work to solve clients’ business problems, like determining pension contributions and programs and finding the right pay and compensation packages to attract top quality people.

Technical proficiency is important, but for the Insight Programme, Watson Wyatt looks for potential first, as technical skills can be taught to the right people. More important are the consulting skills, like the ability to communicate to clients and within a team, the ability to analyze problems and find solutions, and the ability to think for yourself and take the initiative necessary to get the job done.

For those who complete the 2-day Insight Programme and are interested in further opportunities at Watson Wyatt, the summer scheme is available, which could lead to further opportunities within the company.

The Summer Scheme is for graduates and those on course to graduate. It’s a 6-week internship that gives you real-world experience and shows you exactly what it would be like to work for Watson Wyatt. After a 2-day orientation, you choose the practice you’re interested in and suited for, and you’re treated as a brand new employee would be treated.  You do the same work and receive the same type of support as a new graduate hire.

You’ll participate in live projects and join a team to work on general problems. If, after the 6-week internship, you’ve impressed those you’ve worked with, you’ll be invited to join in the following year’s graduate intake. And you’ll have valuable insight into both the offerings at Watson Wyatt, and the operations of the business world in general.  This internship puts you directly into a training situation,
