The technology consulting industry, also known as computer consultancy, technology consultancy or information technology consulting (IT consulting) is a field focusing on advising businesses and individuals on how they can best make use of information technology in order to meet their unique business objectives. Technology consultants, in addition to providing their unique brand of advice, often are also responsible for implementing, deploying and administering these IT systems and solutions on the behalf of the business.
Within the IT consulting and technology consulting industries you will find what is essentially defined as a system of three tiers. The first tier is made up of professional services firms, and these are responsible for maintaining very large professional workforces, where workers can be deployed as needed to suit a wide range of different tasks. The second tier is comprised of staffing firms, which are responsible for placing a technologist with a business on what is essentially a temporary basis, generally to deal with a temporary skill shortage or a particularly technical project. There are also independent consultants that function as employees of these staffing firms or as independent contractors on their own. All three of these tiers are like separate technology consulting industries that are growing consistently and are constantly in need of new employees to fill their ranks, meaning that there are a myriad of technology consulting positions out there looking to be filled.
