For those interested in internships at Microsoft, the solution is the MACH programme. MACH stands for Microsoft Academies for College Hires, and gives you the opportunity to work and learn at the same time. MACH is the perfect bridge from the academic world to a career at Microsoft.
MACH lets graduates from top universities work on actual, live projects while receiving support and encouragement from professionals already working within the field. You’ll be assessed and reviewed regularly to find your special contributions and the right place for you that plays upon your strengths. MACH students are from all around the world, and all working toward a lifelong career at one of the top companies in one of fastest moving industries in the world.
The MACH programme lasts for two years. The first year is made up of skills training in key areas that can help you develop personally and professionally within the Microsoft framework. The second year focuses on career development. It begins with induction that last from one to three weeks, depending on your desired specialization. This takes place in Seattle, Washington, USA. Then you’ll go to a two-week skill training session in Europe that will help you grow in team work and presentations.
Another week in the United States at the MACH Global Conference and Microsoft Global Exchange gives you networking opportunities. You’ll also receive career workshops, career strategy training, and virtual training that gives you scenarios and problems to solve using the skills you’ve learned to date in your education. Your training will involve your specialty area and can include things like marketing, technical and sales training.
Marketing
Marketing training includes two weeks at the Kellogg Corporation in Chicago in the United States, as well as other Chartered Institute of Marketing classes that are available in the second year. You’ll also get custom-tailored training for specific strengths and career aspirations.
Technical
Two weeks of technical training will help you achieve the certification of Microsoft Certified Professional, or MCP. You can achieve the MCPD (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer) through studies of SQL, VB, web design and advanced web development. And you can also achieve MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Administrator) by learning to implement a Microsoft Windows Server network, install and configure Windows Vista, and learn how to manage a Microsoft Exchange Server.
Sales
Sales training includes working with clients from your very first day in the program. Mentors will help you achieve your goals in this specialty. Product training, spin-selling, selling to the board and the Microsoft Solutions sales process will be part of your training. You’ll learn exceptional sales skilled from the experienced business managers that will guide you through this part of the training.
Once you’ve graduated from MACH, you’re a MACH alumni and you will remain a member during your career at Microsoft.
Forty-eight week undergraduate placements are available, which give you on the job training and the opportunity to work in real client situations. This can be a stepping stone to the MACH internship and education scheme.
