Hey all,
Im applying for an IT Applications Programmer position. A snippet of my cover letter reads:
As the largest and diverse employer in AZ, I intend to maintain those values as a state government IT Applications Programmer.
Is “state government” supposed to be capitalized? I’ve read if its used as an adjective, dont. But if it’s part of a title, do capitalize. It looks like it can go either way, though.
I need an expert’s suggestion to help polish this baby up and land me the interview.

I think it should not be capitalized. If you were naming the state, you could capitalize both the state and government; i.e. Idaho Government IT Applications Programmer.

no. State government is not capitalized.
You only capitalize proper nouns (cities, states, actual names of people or places), days of the week and months.
If you have microsoft word, it would highlight words that need to be capitalized.

No because you’re not actually naming the state there

yeah..I agree with the 2 answers. I feel the same – to not capitalize.
