Vodafone is looking to hire 50 graduates at the start of 2010 with a new recruitment program. The company wants to find new talent in the job pool, and believe that new, fresh faces are the perfect place to do so.
Matthew Brearly, the Director of HR for Vodafone UK, said that Vodfaone want to finds people who “Are passionate about customers, who thrive in a dynamic environment, get involved (in the company) and add value (to the company)”. He said that they are looking for people who work well with technology, and know how to use the Internet in a way that will help the business to grow.
It is important to note the jobs are not permanent. The jobs will offer a salary of £25,000 for one year to all 50 employees. The jobs will require a full year of training and evaluation. The company will then evaluate each and every worker. Those who are considered the “best candidates” will be offered a permanent job.
Vodafone is looking for talent amidst some issues within the company. The company has recently cut 500 jobs because of the weak economy. The company puts great importance in new talent, however, believing that they can advance the company and bring new ideas to the table.
Vodafone’s headquarters are in Newbury, Berkshire in the United Kingdom. The company is the second largest mobile phone operator in the world. The company employs nearly 80,000 people around the world.
The company’s graduate training program will start in September of 2010. All of the graduates will have to spend 2 months in a retail store. These two months have a specific aim. The company wants the workers to become familiar with the various products before they start working in the business.
This graduate program comes on the heels of an open letter to the company’s board of directors by Robin Beinenstock. Beinenstock is a analyst for Bernstein research. The company was openly criticized for not having talent within the company. Robin stated that “Vodafone needs to fundamentally change its organizational culture”. She notes that the higher-ups in the company have been around since business has started to decline. She also notes that “the same managers that led the business into trouble in the first place cannot lead a turnaround”.
The company plans to choose the candidates by September, and to then work with them through an entire training period. According to Brearley, the company wants individuals who “want to make a real difference by being part of our business”.
