Most high school grads start with the basics – waitressing (if you do it in a place with a bar you could eventually be graduated to bar tender which is where the money is in most restaurants), phone/retail sales, and temp work. Construction or landscape work can help tone a young man’s upper body with all the heavy lifting – but I don’t know how well they pay.
I have only a high school diploma and I did phone sales (they hire anyone who seems competent and if you have a talent for it, it can pay quite well) then I went to temp work (where I learned a lot of my basic computer and people skills). I then took a job as a general desktop publisher – once they downsized me I started working for myself as a graphic designer when I was around 28 and I have never looked back. I am 39 today and work from home with my husband (a programmer) where we homeschool our kids. I am so glad that I didn’t waste the money and 4+ years in college.
Peace!
